Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments use pulsed blasts of intense light energy to help correct various skin imperfections, such as wrinkles and fine lines, acne scars, birthmarks, rosacea, spider veins, stretch marks, and sun damage. It can also be used for hair removal. This laser treatment is safe to use on any part of the body; however, patients with darker skin types may not be able to achieve their desired results due to the increased amounts of melanin in their skin. For this treatment, bursts of intense light energy of differing wavelengths are directed at the target area. This light energy targets and removes damaged or pigmented skin cells and/or hair follicles. To achieve optimal results, four to six treatments are generally required, spaced four weeks apart.
Downtime for this treatment is usually less than a week, and results generally last twelve months, though results do vary depending on each patient.
Laser skin resurfacing with the Pixel laser uses fractional light energy to remove the top layer of skin without damaging any of the surrounding skin cells. Collagen is promoted, which helps to heal and strengthen the remaining tissue. This laser treatment can be used effectively on any area of the body to address wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation issues, acne scars, large pores, and skin laxity. The Pixel laser is also safe to use on all skin types but will require skin preparation for some darker skin types prior to treatment. Targeted skin will peel and flake for five to seven days following treatment.
Downtime with this treatment is typically five to seven days because you will experience red and flaky skin. You will need to avoid the sun during this time. Most patients require two to five treatment sessions. Results usually last six to 12 months.
