4 Minute Read:

Every year, thousands of women undergo cosmetic breast procedures, including breast augmentation, breast lift (mastopexy), and breast reduction. Each of these women has her own reasons for undergoing her procedure, which can range from aesthetic to physical comfort. And while a breast procedure can be performed at any time in a woman’s life to improve confidence, there are specific times in life when it is better for a woman to undergo cosmetic breast surgery.

Below, we will take a look at these different procedures and discuss what timeframes may be best to help you achieve the lasting results you’re looking for.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is a fantastic option for adult women of all ages who are looking to achieve larger, more shapely, and voluminous breasts. With this procedure, you have the opportunity to customize your results by choosing the breast implant material (saline implant or silicone implant), implant size, implant shape, and placement of the implant.

While you can augment the size and shape of your breasts at any time, it is strongly recommended that you have this procedure performed either long before starting a family or after you are finished having children.

This is because pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can all affect the appearance and structure of your breasts, both with and without implants. This is the reason that many women choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery after they’re finished having children. By waiting until after your last child, you can correct some of the aesthetic issues caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding.

You can choose to have your augmentation surgery performed as a standalone procedure or combine it with a breast lift and/or other procedures (such as with Mommy Makeover surgery, which includes liposuction surgery and tummy tuck surgery).

Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery is a procedure in which loose and sagging tissues (caused by age, weight loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding) are tightened and lifted to a higher and perkier level, and excess skin is surgically removed to give you natural-looking breasts. This procedure helps women feel comfortable and confident with the appearance of their breasts.

Similar to breast augmentation, breast lift surgery can be performed whenever you desire a more youthful appearance to your breasts. And, like augmentation surgery, a breast lift can be performed as either an individual procedure or combined with an augmentation or reduction.

However, the reality is that most women do not experience loose and sagging breasts until they are older or until after they have been pregnant or breastfed their child.

Because of this, it is recommended that you wait to have a breast lift procedure until after you are finished breastfeeding with your last pregnancy. This is to ensure that your results are long lasting, since a future pregnancy can minimize your breast lift results.

Breast Reduction

Many women find themselves frustrated with overly large breasts. The size of their breasts can keep them from participating in activities they love, can bring about unwanted attention, and, most importantly, can cause women pain and discomfort in the back and neck.

With breast reduction surgery, excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed to help you achieve smaller, more manageable breasts that are more balanced with the size of your body.

Unlike breast augmentation and lift procedures, breast reduction surgery should be performed as soon as possible if you are experiencing severe pain. However, if you are frustrated with the size of your large breasts, but you aren’t experiencing pain, then it may be recommended that you wait until after your last pregnancy to have your reduction procedure.

This is because pregnancy affects the size and shape of the breasts and can impact your breast reduction results. Additionally, breast reduction surgery may affect some women’s ability to breastfeed.
